The state of South Carolina is engaged in making state government information on the Web accessible to those with functional impairments in accordance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998. Recently published guidelines require compliance by July 1, 2001. The provisions of the Assistive Technology Act of 1998 expand the compliance requirements of Section 508 to require any college or university receiving federal funding to provide individuals with disabilities access to electronic information and technology.
