About Clemson's VirusList

Why have a VirusList?

As a result of mass infections from worms spreading on campus and expoiting Microsoft vulnerabilities, Clemson has instituted a system known as the "VirusList" that disables machines with this type of behavior. This setup consists of a monitoring system to detect abnormal network activity that is typical of worm and virus infected workstations. Once detected, the workstation is placed in the Viruslist and its network connectivity is disabled to prevent it from infecting other workstations on the network.

How do I know if I'm on the VirusList?

If a system gets picked up by the VirusList, it is placed in the Viruslist and its network connectivity is disabled to prevent it from infecting other workstations on the network. The user that is listed within the Network Registration entry for that system should receive an automatic email notifying them it has been disabled. The user can also visit the following website to check for an entry:

Clemson VirusList (requires valid Clemson Login)

How do I get off the VirusList?

Once you are on the VirusList, you cannot get off until your system has been confirmed clean by Clemson support personnel. Here are the support contacts for the associated user group:
