Email Attachment Size Increased - Oct 2007
Clemson students and employees can now send email attachments up to 100 MB in size. This includes the new Outlook/Exchange system for employees as well as the university mail server. Note that few sites allow such large files to be emailed. Many other sites only allow attachments up to 2 MB in size. If you have any problems sending large attachments, the problem will most likely be due to restrictions on the recipient's mail server!
New Web Mail Portal
We've made a new "front door" for all of the web-based mail clients supported by Clemson. Here you will find the links for
- Xmail - the web interface for employees to use to access their Outlook accounts stored on the university's Exchange server,
- Google Apps for Education - available to students and employees (see below for more information), and
- Webmail - available to all students and employees to check their email on mail.clemson.edu.
Google Apps for Clemson
CCIT and Student Government are partnering with Google to bring Google Apps for Education to students and employees. Google Apps is expected to launch on September 17, 2007. A preliminary Frequently Asked Questions page is available.
Microsoft Exchange Services
Clemson University runs Exchange 2003 servers for use by faculty and staff to provide a seamless interface for email, calendaring and contacts.
Check the Exchange home page for more information and updates.
Spam Filtering
Clemson University uses Proofpoint to filter spam and other junk mail messages. Proofpoint filters out 99% of the junk mail received by Clemson. Students and employees will receive daily and weekly email digests of any questionable email put into quarantine. They can release the messages or mark the sender as safe or not. If not released within 14 days, the quarantined messages will be deleted. More information about Proofpoint is available.
Accessing Your Email
Your Clemson email is accessible from offices, computer labs, dorm rooms and from off campus. The recommended and supported email software is Eudora, for which the university has a site license. Email can also be accessed via Clemson's web mail from any web browser.
Accessing email from an office:
The first point of contact for setting up email on an office computer should be your departmental Technology Support Provider (TSP). They will assist you with installing and setting up your email software. A list of TSPs and information about the TSP program is available.
Accessing email from a computer lab:
Web mail is the recommended way to access your email from the public access labs. The web mail portal contains links to the university supported web mail clients.
Accessing Email from a Dorm Room with a ResCom Connection:
The dorms have a direct connection to the Clemson network. This service is called ResCom. It uses an ethernet network interface card instead of a modem and provides fast access to the Internet. Contact the ResCom Support Desk at 656-7672 for information.
Off-Campus Access:
The easiest way to access your Clemson email is by using web mail. The web mail portal contains links to the university supported web mail clients.
Information for configuring your email can be found in the documentation library.
