Upcoming changes to sites.clemson.edu and people.clemson.edu web space access

Tara Stone, CCIT Communications
February 7, 2023

CCIT has begun the first phase of upgrading the architecture for the web-accessible sites servers because the current system has reached end-of-life. If you are an owner of one or more of these sites, you should have received an email from CCIT regarding this upgrade. During the month of February, please review any website(s) using the instructions found in the HDKB articles linked below and make any necessary changes prior to the planned go-live date of February 28, 2023.

This change affects how users edit their website content going forward. CCIT is dropping support for legacy WebDAV connectivity and moving to an environment similar to other home directory and group/department storage systems. The updates to the web server and PHP versions are minimal version jumps, so we do not expect a large impact on these websites’ functionality. However, we need all administrators to verify that their website(s) are not affected. Specific versions and details can be found in the HDKB articles linked above.

Again, we expect the impact of this first phase on these website(s) to be minimal. However, once this stage is complete, CCIT will promptly begin the next stage of moving everything to newer versions of Apache and PHP. This second stage will potentially be more disruptive with a larger jump in PHP versions, which is more likely to have an impact than the first phase. Website owners will have a longer testing time period during the second phase.

If you are an owner of one or more of these sites, CCIT will contact you with further updates on the upgrade and how to edit your websites. Please email ccit-sites-upgrade@lists.clemson.edu if you have questions, need assistance, or would like for CCIT to decommission a website.
